Man I'm just sitting here looking at notes for my upcoming test in Calc 1 tomorrow and wanted to warn all the young'uns to not take it if they can avoid it! Its annoying and dumb and stuff...yeah. now back to my relative extrema.

Calculus was way easier than I expected. Just a lot of algebra mostly, after you get the concepts.

I hated my first calc prof - failed it actually. (I'm blaming the prof )
Second time around I aced it.
Then I switched majors, so I didn't have to go on to Calc 2.

I had 4 Semesters of Calc it was easy ...but I agree Diff EQ sux and so did probability

Don't let them scare you off, young'uns. What Soybomb calls "annoying and dumb" is the foundation of engineering and advanced science. If you want to take anything more advanced than high-school chemistry and physics, calculus is indespensible. Dif Eq is also not that bad as long as you keep up with the work.

He's right though. It's the foundation for engineering and sciences, so you better hang in there!

So how did you guys like linear algebra? I'm thinking about taking it next semester!

i hate math enough as it is(last year i got a 92% in science and a 56% in math, go fig ) even though i know i need it. i can't wait to see what calculus is like(note the sarcasm)

Linear Algebra is tons of fun, I loved it. Shouldn't be any calculus in it either A very good class for all to take, especially if you have an interest in computer graphics.

Ahhh good to hear, at my college calc2 is a prereq, and at some calc3 is so I was just wondering how bad it would be

calculus is so easy. you don't even have to prove much of anything. conceptually, advance calc is not much harder but the reliance of being able to prove things is what makes it difficult. the hardest part of calculus is perhaps complex integrations, and some rediculously odd looking functions, and infinite series. e^(i*pi) = -1 blew my mind =)

differential equations is easy too... lol =) PDE can be a pain, sometimes.... series solutions to DE's are fun =)

abstract algebra sucks. A LOT!!!! it sucks to much, the term "is suck" can't even apply it sucks so much!

linear algebra is just matrices mostly... some basic group theory.

discrete math is okay, except for the part that deals with abstract algebra which SUCKS!!!

I'm taking OAC Calculus right now...it's not that bad. I know the concepts and stuff...its just takes time and practice. I just had my mid-term on it today.

Calc is kicking my ass this year, it should get better next semester though. University policy is no graphing calcs, so we've got to do stuff the hard way (although I've never really found the ole TI-86 all that useful in calc). I wish I had a better math background in HS, but, living in BFE means that you attend BFE High just cause its the only one there. My math teacher in HS was also the basketball coach, so he pretty much had his position secured there, and wasn't required to teach....

Needless to say, my kids will be going to private school.

why not? just because they know how to tell between pci and agp, or know how to plug a card in a slot, or format a HD, or not to plug a slot 1 into the isa slot doesn't mean anything.

Diffeq isn't that bad...i have a horrible prof, though...she's a hardcore mathmetician, and insists on teaching everything from a purely theoretical standpoint...first and second aren't that bad, power series are cake, laplace is cake...not too bad...
