I need to find some sort of equation that the derivative is used in computer applications. I.E. my calc class wants me to create some sort of presentation involving derivatives and the career (IT) of my choice. Any help is greatly appreciated. It will save me many fruitless google searches.

I think that entire project is pretty FRUITy. Sorry I can't think of anything myself though. I would just pick up a textbook at your local bookstore and scan the pages for equations. You can try books on algorithms and graphics.

i can't think of anything either.

pretend you're going to be a business major.

then look in your text book for applications of calculus in business.

wait you said derivatives... crap, you need integration too.

oh well...

ahhh, the memories of having taken Calc I and II, those were the days.....

wait a sec, i just completed the course last year, hehe :)

try a business calc book. Thay may be your best bet in being able to integrate (no pun intended) derivatives and integrals with a job field (ie. business).

good luck!

well, derivatives are omst well used in physics so perhaps use some type of modeling software for real world situations.

ie: a computer prog that models stress on a moving object

you have position

derivatie(position)=velocity
derivative(vel)=acceleration

etc

Probably your easiest choice is going to be the equations that describe the behavior of a capacitor. Granted, you won't deal with them on a direct level in IT, but they're a part of most of the hardware you'll deal with.
