caffeine withdrawal headaches

School routine: unlock classroom, grab coffee mug, go to faculty room, get a giant cup of coffee.

Summer routine: get up, do stuff, post on ATOT a little bit, do some more stuff, realize my headache is getting worse... take tylenol. Nope. Take advil. Nope. Remember that I haven't had caffeine in a few days - chug 2 cups of warm coffee... 20 minutes later, pain is gone. Repeat every 2 days.

Anyone else ever go through caffeine withdrawal when you change your daily routine?

I've never had caffeine withdrawal symptoms even though I'm a bit of a coffee fanatic. IMO, so long as you're properly hydrated you should be fine, but it sounds like you might be drinking far too much coffee. I wouldn't go over 12 ounces of drip coffee or 3 double espressos a day.

Back when school was still in I was drinking at least one caffeinated soda per day, and I never got headaches from withdrawl.

22 ounce cup each day was what I was used to... I rarely had a 2nd cup. But, you're probably right about being dehydrated.. I need to really increase my fluids for the summer.

I do not experience caffeine withdrawal since I do not drink soda and only drink coffee on rare occasions I am tired and wish to stay awake for work. When I do drink coffee it is strong and in the quantity of an espresso shot.

My drink preference is tea, bottled or filtered water, or juice such as carrot juice. Different things can be added to tea for taste, such as honey, lemon, milk, or sugar. Additionally, with the many varieties of brown and green tea, I never get bored with drinking it. My preference is to not drink Lipton tea.

Just some thoughts in case this may sound interesting to you.

yes I get that after 2 days of having no coffee....went off coffee for a week to do a body cleanse then after that week was up...triple espresso...the headache was with me for the week however

Caffiene is a drug, significant use and then quitting can cause withdrawl. Cokes don't have nearly as much caffiene as soda, and especially only one a day is not that much. But yea, thats about 3 cups of coffee (2.5 maybe) and going cold turkey on that is hard. Try taking exedrin or some other pill that has caffiene it might help. Just keeping hydrated isn't enough, you need to wean yourself off.

Except for the fact that many teas have caffeine too....

This is true but brown tea does not have as much caffeine as coffee and green tea is not supposed to have any. How green tea does not have any caffeine while brown tea does have caffeine is a mystery to me though.

I only have 1 cup of coffee first thing when I wake up, usually. On the rare occassion I don't, I get quite drowsy earlier than usual, but not much more than that.

Green tea does have caffeine, but its about half that of coffee.

I love my coffee, and I do also get headaches when I'm deprived for too long. If you need to quit, it will eventually pass. Meanwhile, the two most effective remedies I know of are the American solution, Asprin, or the French solution, the guillotine.

I'll stick with the first option. 😎
