My co-worker and I were discussing soda and coffee caffeine conents. I said that soda has the same or more caffeine in it as a cup of coffee, and it tastes a lot better...

He said I was on crack.

Apparently he is right. An 8oz cup of brewed coffee, on average, has 80-120mg of caffeine. A 12oz can of soda only have 35-50mg in it. I drink Diet Pepsi, and it only has 35mg or so.

Looks like if I want to wake up in the morning, I will start drinking a cup of Joe...

That largely depends on the type of tea and the way it's brewed, but tea rarely has as much caffeine as coffee. I have no idea where you might have heard this notion.

I think it's actually a fairly popular misconception. I know I heard it for years before seeing official refutation of it.
