Anyone got an opinion - yay or nay?

I think it's probably a bit underpowered for my setup (Onkyo TX-SR605, front: KEF iq3s, middle: KEF iq6c rear: tbd - probably iq3s)

I know we're not allowed to do "price checks" but I'm kind of new to the HT/audio scene - at what price point does it become a "good deal" to buy something like this used? (2/3's new price, 1/2, etc)

Well first off I see a potential problem being the receiver. If I remember right, the KEFs like a pretty powerful amp to drive them, and the SR605 leaves a bit to be desired there. Its not a BAD receiver or anything, but it isn't the most powerful one either.

But if you already have that setup (I can't tell from your message if you already have those items or are thinking about getting those items) and are happy with it, then no worries.

As far as the cadance is concerned, I haven't heard it personally but its at the same price point as the Bic H-100, and from reading people's comparison's between the 2 it seems most fall on the side of the Bic. I have one of the H-100's and can attest to its quality at that price point. They're becoming a little harder to find but authorized vendors are still selling them Buy-It-Now on eBay anyways.

When I was looking at subs I kinda narrowed it down to the Cadence 15" and the BIC H-100 and I opted for the BIC because it was smaller and cheaper in the end. The way it seemed to fall was the BIC H-100 beat the Cadence 12" sub since it was cheaper, more powerful and as clear if not more clear. However the Cadence 15" sub bested the BIC by quite a bit all around so it was a matter of spending $250 or 400$ for me, the CSX12 was knocked out of the running after wandering AVSforum as the BIC just seemed to beat it all around.

I appreciate the feedback. If I were looking at "going price" on ebay, the h-100 would be my winner ($300 for the CSX-12 or $230 for the H-100) but I've got a guy selling a CSX-12 locally (on CL) current asking is $200.

Not sure how much lower he'd be willing to go, but at what point does it become a better "bang for my buck" (since it won't be the better bang outright.)

I have the Onkyo, the fronts (iq3s) and the center (iq6c). Now I'd like to get a sub.

I'm not married to the Onkyo and might trade up at some point, but would like to get to a full out 5.1 setup before I start upgrading each component.

///EDIT AGAIN:
Simple question (maybe doesn't have a simple answer) what's the price range on a used sub (e.g. 60-70% new price) like a cadence or a bic

Well, the advantage of buying new is obviously getting a warranty on it. I THINK the Bic is 3 years? Whereas if something were to go wrong on the used Cadance, you'd be out of luck.

Frankly if the difference is only $30, I'd definitely get the H-100 new. If he'd be willing to go down to $150 or something, then it might be worth it..

Sorry I can't comment on the Cadence as I've never used one, but I will give a big thumbs up to the BIC. I've had one for the last 4 months and I've been very impressed.

Got it. I offered him $125. If he says no, I'm no different than where I am now.

Probably be better, since I need to get a QAM tuner for my computer more urgently.
