cache question for dual xeon setup

can you use two xeon cpus which are rated at the same mhz, but one has more cache than the other? ie: 512k and a 1mb

Never use two different steppings of intel processors in a dual processor setup.

Rigor is completely correct. To prevent future headaches don't mix steppings or different cache sizes. Different steppings may work (or at least seem to), and many people will tell you that it doesn't make a difference, but there's a significant potential for data corruption and system instability if you mix different steppings in an SMP system.
