Cablecard, which one to buy?

Before bidding on either of these cards I would do as the auction description states and " You will need to check with your service provider to see if they support this card and if you can activate it with them" . Conditional access security devices (such as CableCARD) are typically not activated by most providers unless you purchase/lease the card from them.

This and if those cards are actually on the same cable company as you currently use you can run into issues where the EIN numbers are the same as someone still owing the company money. You get to pay their balance before they will add the cards to the account.

Buying used cable tv or satellite gear needs to be done carefully.

Perhaps renting a cablecard at $1 per month is a better option.

I did call them a few months back and they said it was not a problem to use a 3rd party sourced or used cablecard from ebay. However, the encryption never crossed my mind and I did not ask.

Anyhow, back the original question. What is the difference between these two cards?

The only difference I see between the two is how the label on the front of the card looks. They both support the same encryption technologies and both are advertised as multi-stream capable so they'll let you have more than one tuner active in whichever device you use it in. You might want to see if you can get the EIN number from the seller and check with your cable provider to see if it is clear to add to their system.
