does anybody have any updates or news about the CableCard or anything similar for satellite?

I have direct TV now and was unsuccessful in connecting and configuring my HTPC to the satellite cable.

will there be something in the future? any rumors?

My understanding is that those hopes died with Windows Media Center/Microsoft a couple years ago.

I was on top of every piece of news that had anything remotely to do with it and I determined they died. I've now got two cablecard tuners and might be able to switch from Comcast to FIOS soon. Everything has a bright side :p

so wait, you got a cablecard tuner? working?

i have a TV tuner card but it won't do any good without cablecard.
i tried to go through the set-top box but the remote controls won't sync properly and i have a feeling that direct tv disabled it on purpose.

meh, i don't care if it's satellite or cable, is all the same cheese to me. i just want to be able to use it via HTPC.

so cable still does deploy cablecards and they work. is the Ceton infiniTV 4 the only one out or the best out? does it work with other providers then FioS.
how do you like it?

I have Charter and it works well. It is only $1.99 per cable card as well compared to $10 for the box rentals.

Ceton and HDHomerun are both releasing cablecard products, good luck finding them.
The old ATI Cablecard product will work on modern pcs with windows 7, if you can find it on ebay.

Otherwise, I think some DVRs let you control them via firewire.

so i have been doing some reading on TW's offering and they support it as well
but they highly recommend to a "tru2way" cablecard. i guess the UDCP or something devices can only communicate one way.

i think 1.99 or 2.99 is a reasonable price. i was looking at the infiniTV 4 and it goes for 399.- which is a little steep but then again, those are 4 tuners in one. plus you can actually share it out to other media center pc's in the house which really makes this much more viable.

i have the AVerMedia AVerTVHD Duet - PCTV Tuner A188 right, assuming i get the infiniTV 4 then i can throw out the avermedia, correct?

Yes you could throw that out.

Avermedia supports 2way. There are also ways to get the DRM protection off of the cablecard broadcast probably outside the scope of this forum though.
