I recently moved to a location where the landlord supplies my Cable TV. However there is no converter box, only a coax from the wall. So my HDTV has been rendered to non-HDTV. I have googled this question in every way i can think of.

Is there a cable or box which will convert my coax from the wall to HDMI / HDTV?

Since the coax gets all the cable channels it would seem the signal is not scrambled.

Thanks. Hopefully my question makes sense.

Edit: It is very apparent that the signal from the coax is not HD as the picture from over the air stations is non mistakenly better.

It sounds you're just using analogue coax. If so, it will never be HD. Actually, assuming it is analogue coax, consider yourself lucky, since in many areas, analogue coax has been discontinued, so you'd get nothing at all via bare coax.

Usually a converter box from the same coax line will give you digital HD. But that means you'll have to get an HD converter box on his account.

It'd help though if you could tell us the location and the company.

The cable company is Brighthouse in California. It appears to me, since there are multiple units here the landlord installed the splitters, not Brighthouse. In case it matters, I do get many cable channels like History, Discovery, etc. that are definitely not OTA signals.

It is clear your complex pays bright house for non HD basic service which is re-broadcasted in the building (Your tv should show these up as cable tv stations instead of OTA). The rebroadcast is clearly SD for older sets with no interest in supporting HD and such. Should you want the full package, they would simply disconnect you off the basic drop and put you on an unfettered drop that other pay subs use so that a box can be placed in your apt.

Does not appear that BH has gne all digital yet, so you should be able to scan with your qam tuner and pick up some of the local channels in HD. Since it's likely that you just have a barebone basic package as part of your rent, that's likely all you'd get in HD.

Even if you paid for your own service, you'd likely need a box or other type of similar device to get HD channels although I don't have much experience with their network so can't say for sure.

Motley, what resolution does your TV say it's viewing the stations in? Keep in mind that on QAM stations, the initial main station is HD, but almost all instances of secondary stations (9-2, 9-3, ect) are SD.
