Cable TV Question

Looking to dump by cable tv as the bill went up again for the fourth time in a year. If i cancel my tv service with the cable company and just plug the coax into the back of my tv, will i be able to pick up all the over air broadcast channels as listed here.

Don't care about movie channels like hbo, showtime. Long as i can get some basic channels, would be fine.

No, you'll need to get an antenna.

You'll likely get something. Most cable companies have a number of clear QAM channels. Of course, this is assuming they don't physically disconnect the cable.

Yeah, if you just want the broadcast basics, you might just knock your cable down to the lowest package.

My local provider here (Comporium) will get you all the broadcast channels + some extra public service stations for $10/mo + taxes.

But you get much better PQ with an antenna

I pay for basic cable $13 a month. I'm supposed to get channels 2-13 but I get about a 100 channels in SD and the 4 networks in HD. Internet only is $60 a month but $42 a month if you have basic cable. So I end up saving $5 a month by having basic cable.

If you have internet through cable then yes, unless they filter internet only customers. Most don't anymore. If you have DSL, or they filter, Then you will need an antenna.

No you will likely get nothing without subscribing. Cable companies used to ignore modem only users but to increase their revenue they have started to install filters anytime someone drops their tv package and keeps internet. I know that is the new official policy with Charter cable.

most broadcast channels are demanding that cable subscribers pay them as well, so they have a reason to totally cut off your TV if you cancel cable

Comcast does the same thing.
