I have an old IBM model 8303 52U desktop computer that has a Western Digital model WD400BB drive installed in it. Probably the drive that originally came with the machine.
The drive is attached to the primary IDE connector on the motherboard.
Why is it that when I switch the jumper on the drive from cable select to MASTER, the drive is not recognized by the computer ? Works fine when jumped as CS.
The cable that is connecting the drive to the motherboard has only ONE device/drive connector on it.
I was under the impression that a cable select cable/ribbon had to have multiple device connectors on it. Is that incorrect ?
The CD-RW is connected to the secondary IDE motherboard connector and is jumped as master and is recognized and works fine.
Is there something quirky about this particular model of Western Digital drive. Seems like to me that I might have read something about that in the past ?
Thanks.
