My cable connection is terrible every am for about 2 hours then its fine all day. I ran pingplotter and my dlink router was pinging 33% packetloss. So I disconnected the router and went straight to the cable modem and no packet loss. Is this a sign the router is going bad or can it be something else? thank you

I had that same problem on my Comcast cable connection nearly every day for about a month earlier this year. The only way to 'fix' it was to reset the equipment or just wait until it ended. Switching your PC from your router directly from the modem and cycling power on the modem to get it to work would have the effect of resetting the modem, so it sounds like you have the same issue.

After several weeks of phone calls and multiple phone jockeys denying anything was wrong, I finally got in touch with someone that was willing to tell me the truth, and it turned out that Comcast was shutting down and resetting all of their equipment in the area every night because they had over-sold their bandwidth so they were doing it to force the people running 'servers' and P2P software offline. They finally got the equipment upgraded about two months ago and everything has been working perfectly since then. It can't hurt to give your ISP a call and ask them what is going on, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a similar situation in your area.

Glad that you post this Fardringle I think that the main problem is Patients. The majority of WAN occurrences in Internet connection in most cases has nothing to with our own hardware it is usually an ISP transient problem. When you call an ISP they would never admit a problem since it can expose them to different sorts of litigation. Sometimes you might find the truth if you happen to talk to an employee who does not like this attitude, or and is planning to leave his job in the near future.

As for ron2368 problem.

Try to reset your Router to default and go over your settings especially over the MTU setting if you have one.

When done with the Router optimize your computer?s TCP/IP Stack.

Thank you

At this point I am getting nothing thru the router when its connected. It powers up and all the right lights flash but no internet. Pushing the reset does nothing. I figured that reflashing the firmware would work if it is corrupted somehow, but when I run the flash program it is unable to find the router.

Any recommendations on a good wireless router?
