There are Two cable providers here, Comcast and Wide Open West (wowway.com)
I went with Cable over DSL since it's cheaper

6mbit / 600kbit cable ... $50 a month, a DSL connection at 6mbit / 768kbit would run me $100 per month. Not worth the extra $50 for just another 150kbit of upstream .....

dsl is the way to go if you all you do w/ the internet is browse a few web pages, email and chat. My parents and siblings switched from charter cable to dsl. They didn't even notice a difference. Yea if you look at the numbers, cable is 2, 3 times faster. But it doesn't matter when you webpage loads in .05s versus .1 seconds. For a casual web user (not us geeks on ATOT who needs their daily pr0n and ware$), dsl is great.

POTS is a waste of money for us. Dual cells here, plenty of choices of providors, duh. I don't know if DSL is available in our building but given the cruddy state of the wiring when we did have POTS, I doubt it is. TimeWarner has a monopoly on the building for cable (so TV & 'net from them).

1 Cable (Comcast) or 1 DSL (QWest0.

IMO, thats competition in itself because I can choose either cable or DSL for hi-speed Internet.

Cable is more expensive than DSL ($42 or $52 a month) compared to about $25/month with the starter package of DSL. But then again, cable is faster than the cheapest DSL here.

For cable it's Comcast or nothing. Just got my latest bill $135!!! That's with no pay channels (HBO, SHO, etc). For some fvcked up reason I have to get digital cable to use the HD DVR, but with just the HD receiver, I don't need the digital cable package. Might be time to switch to DirectTV and FIOS if they can't get me to a reasonable price/mo.

Either Rogers Cable or Bell Sympatico DSL in my area, though i don't think sympatico works in my building. Roger's is horrible when you actually have to talk to their customer service, but otherwise the internet is great. $45 CDN for 5mb/800kb and i get ~ 10 ping on nearby counterstrike servers. Only problem is there is a 60gb/month limit.
