AT&T is installing fiber optics in my neighborhod so I can get cable internet. I'm going to buy a cable modem, but I don't know what i should get. Any hints? Thanks

zmzhang, you'll have to ask AT&T, because from what I have read, not all cable modems work w/ all cable providers. I'm sure their tech support could verify this fact. Hope this helps.

Most modern companies (including AT&T unless your neighborhood is different from the rest of at&t's net) use DOCSIS, so just make sure it's that. Most everything you find now will be DOCSIS, but if in doubt, ask the retailer what protocol it runs over/uses/speaks.

The Motorola SB4100 ("Surfboard") has worked flawlessly for me, and the interface is uncluttered and useful as well. My $0.02.

Linksys here, and a RCA before that......I'd say get whatever is on the list and you can get cheap.

The Toshiba PCX1100 has worked well for me. It cost $200 about a year ago at CC, but Comcast had two $100 rebates. It was a lot of hassle getting them to reimburse the second rebate even though I met all the conditions. Took several phone calls, letters and persistence.
