cable modem suggestions

I am thinking of changing up my comcast service and getting a cable modem to eliminate the monthly fee.

They have a number of supported modems listed on their webpage, is there much difference in these if they are certified by comcast?

I know I need DCOIS 3 but beyond that I have no idea.

The main difference is from that point on, all issues with the service will be your modems fault. Otherwise the Motorola modems are good.

Definitely purchase one off the supported list to avoid any added headache if you have a problem.

There's a difference between modems, but not that Comcast will tell you.

I recently did the same thing, picked up a Motorola SB6120 off the AT FS/FT. Working great. $7/month just wasnt worth it anymore.

Yea that was what I was seeing as well that I can get a modem for $80 to $100 and that would be paid back in a year or so without the monthly fee. I assume that with the fairly recent updrade to docis 3 this round of modem tech will last much longer then a year.
