Cable Modem Speeds Unlockable?

I've heard that there is the possibility that one can modify a chip whithin the modem to unlock bandwidth twice the current speed. Is there truth to this?

You don't modify th medem. You setup a DOCSIS server on your PC. It is VERY illigal, and many have gotten arrested for it.

Yes, it's possible. Your ISP finds out that you've done it very quickly and they shut you down permanently. It's not worth it at all, because they will usually release your information to other ISP's and blacklist you all over the place.
