I just got a broadband connection (finally!), and on the advice of my ISP and some user reviews decided to buy the Motorola Surf board SB5100. I'm looking to put in a wired network to connect my computers, and was going to go for the Linksys BEFSR41 or BEFSX41 etherfast router, but I've heard of some compatibility issues between surf board modems and linksys routers. Any experience with these products in tandem, good or bad?? Any other suggestions for routers is helpful too. Wireless really isn't an issue simply b/c for the money, I can run cables easily enough and they are all desktops. Thanks a lot.

I love my surfboard and I love my befsr41. Never heard of any incompatibility problems or experienced them myself.

I never heard of a modem have conflicts/problems with a certain router. If you find truth to this please send a link, I'm curious to read on.

I was going to get one of these linksys routers, but I ended up with the Netgear 614. I'm happy with my choice. It's only $85 rebate. Setup was easy, true firewall, content filtering, email logs, etc. and it's wireless. I'm running 2 local 1 wireless without any problems.

I read it in a customer review somewhere. He was suggesting that he was having problems with his modem being too powerful, and that he needed a 50 ft. cable to reduce voltage to stop getting interference with his router. It wasn't making much sense, and I've never heard of any of those problems before, so I just thought it better to ask. Everything I read on the Linksys and Netgear is good, so it may just come down to which I find cheaper. Thanks!

I found a funny thing when I am trying to connect DLINK DI-604 to a cable modem, also from dlink, DCM 200. I have tried everything to make them work, like restart this and that, reset this and that, ... but failed. Then when the router is connected to the cable modem through a hub, it works just fine!

This is quite funny to me, seems both DLINK stuff but don't match, and we have tried both cat 5 and cat 6 cables, the cables provided by dlink or others. I really don't know if I am gonna buy more dlink stuff in the future, it is cheaper to use DLINK, if the hub is not counted :) Something must be missing, I think. :)

I don't think you can update the firmware of the cable modem, and my DI604 has the updated hardware.
