My cable company (Charter) has a cable modem compatibility list.

To list a few: Toshiba PCX2200 and Motorola SB4200 is on that list.

Question:

Am I able to use cable modem other than the one listed on their compatibility list?

If yes, how do I know which cable modem is compatible?

Can anyone tell me does D-Link DCM-200 fits Charter pipeline?

You should purchase something off the compatibility list. The Toshiba is an excellent choice BTW.

Dude, they don't have the list for nothing. Why are you trying to cause yourself grief?

In theory, any Docsis compatible modem will work. But alot of Organizations will give you major grief and even refuse to use anything that is not on their "compatible" list. I got ATTBI to accept my 3com, but it took some effort (lying and self installation).

Its up to you if you wanna try.
