cable modem question

i'am new to this cable/DSL stuff, always had dial-up access.

question is, for a cable modem, can you just get the cable modem service without getting cable TV?

or do i need to subscribe to both cable TV and cable modem?

thanks in advance

<P>Here in Kansas with Cox Communications cable internet costs $10 more if you DON'T have cable TV.&amp;nbsp; Instead of $29/month it is $39/month.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;If you want TV the basic package if $10/month so logically most people go ahead and get&amp;nbsp;cable TV service instead of getting nothing for that&amp;nbsp;extra 10 bucks.&amp;nbsp;</P>

depends on where you're at.... att@home in sf bay area doesn't have anything like that--they do give you $10 off if you supply your own cable modem though.... but with the recent bad news about excite@home's money problems--don't know how long your service will last--i hope they stay in business.. i'm pretty happy w/my cable connection...
