Cable modem question

When a cable modem is installed at a residence, are any filters/anything done to isolate the cable modems data from normal cable tv reception. My cable tv looks ok but I had a PC PVR card laying around and plugged it into my pc to try it. Channels 9 & 11 look fine but channels 2,4 & 5 look very bad.

Is there anything I can do to improve the signal quality to the PC PVR card that would not interfere with the cable modem's quality?

Thanks

Data transmission occurs on channel 108. You will notice that there aren't any tv stations on channel 108 for that reason. The two don't interfere with each other, and no isolation is necessary. If your tv looks bad, it is because the signal is low. This happens most when the signal has been split too many times. This can also be a result of bad wiring, bad splitters, a bad drop to your house, or a bad tap at the pole.

If the rest of your tv's look fine, and the pc card looks bad, it could either be the card itself, or the fact that you have too many splitters on the line in front of it.

Actually, the interference is more likely to come from the upstream transmission, which is in the 5-42mhz range, a harmonic of this can easily cause you issues on the lower channels.
