Cable Modem Problem

Ok, I have a new computer I built with a ASUS AV8 Deluxe mobo. It was at my friends house with his DSL and the net worked fine. I bring it home and hook it up to my Motorolla Surfboard cable modem., and it doesnt connect to the net.... the DHCP wont assign this new computer an IP, wtf! I hook up this other computer and it works fine.... what should I do?>

Start->Run: typed "cmd". In the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew.

Don't know if this will work but it is worth a try.

unplug the cable modem from the wall electricity for 1 minute then replug it in and it will reset the modem to the IP address of the system it is attached to.

what he said, Power Cycle it.

unplug the cable modem for longer. Overnight if needed.. then plug in the new computer. It should work.

Has to do with the MAC address of the prior system.

yeah, wacky is right, it is looking for the mac adress of the network card from your other PC, so that is why it isn't working. Why not get a router, so you can hook them both up, and use mac cloning on the router..
