Cable modem on USB

Hi,

I used to connect my cable modem [Motorola Surfboard SB 4200] thro the RJ45 Jack[network card] I have now used the USB connection as the network port is going to be used for my laptop. Will the surfing speeds be slower?

No, but stability is normally worse. I'd suggest you check around for one of the many rebate deals on a broadband router, I just saw one for $15 on the Gigafast 4 port model. You can have your cake and eat it too, both machines networked and having Internet access.

What is a broadband router? I have a fixed IP address provided by my cable provider. Can I connect to one pc with USB and the other PC with network card or will there show a clash of IP addresses?
