Cable Modem just died

I'm using a Surfboard 4100 IIRC. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Motorola modem.

Yes I also have the Motorola Surfboard 5100, it is great. It doesnt heat and is very good -- lol :D

Excuse me but let me highjack a bit note: i am wondering if there are any good dsl modems that can squeeze a little bit more out of my connection?

toshiba pcx2600 with 2 ports (one usb and another cat 5e) = it came from my cable company and i like it! I plan on going from the cable modem to my linux box/server then connect from the linux box to my XP PC.

Line rate is limited, ADSL modems only vary by a few kilobits in transfer rates.

Visit DSLReports.com and run their Speed Test and Tweak Test. Take note of any recommendations there regarding RWIN setting and MTU setting. You might find a change in one or both of these settings can improve your speed.

toshiba is a good second choice

I might look into that.

Originally i thought motorola's surfboard series modems were for both dsl and cable, only found out recently that they were only for cable :eek:
