Cable modem got struck by lightning. Windows 7 internet sharing

Well my cable modem, xbox (xbmc) got zapped through the ethernet. Cable modem only works via usb. So i thought i could hook it up via usb to desktop then go from desktop ethernet to router (internet port) and then share the internet connection in windows 7.

However, when ever i goto network share center, windows 7 locks up with this config. I doubt many people would ever have this config, but after restart and retry i cannot get network/share center to be responsive.

ahh does anyone know how to setup internet sharing. Right clicking and going to sharing only makes the internet disappear. As does briding the connections.

Well the user guide says that it cannot be done.... "You can connect a single computer to the USB port and from one to 31 remaining users
to an Ethernet hub, as shown at bottom left. You cannot connect more than
one computer to the cable modem through the USB port."

ubuntu runs way better with this usb crap. But still internet sharing doesnt work. Im really surprised it wont work though. I mean so what if its coming from usb. Its internet just freaking share it.
