cable modem dhcp error

I got 2 nic's in my system 1 3Com and 1 generic. I want to connect to my cable modem with the generic one but it won't get a desent ip adres and/or dhcp adres.

Pls help.

btw if I stick the cable in the 3com BANG I have access.
