I have my cable connection split, one to computer TV tuner and other to cable modem, works great 90% of them time, but then it goes dead and the only way to get the cable modem connection back up is to unscrew the TV tuner connection, and unplug the cable modem, so the only connection is going to the modem, and plug it back in. After about 30 seconds it lights up and then I can screw the TV tuner connection back in to the splitter and it works great, until about 10 hours later it will go out.

If you say I can't split the connection, I did a 3 way split (cable modem, CPU TV Tuner, TV) when I lived on the other half of the duplex. For whatever reason, this side is much weaker in terms of connection. So... any advice on a bi-directional amp and would this solve my problems?

Haha... hadn't even thought about that yet. True though, they say that is the strongest port in the house and if I can show them it won't work without a splitter, they gotta. However, I was going to call up and bitch about it the oterh day and I got "Estimated wait time is..... twenty..... eight minutes." F that.

I had a weak cable connection upstairs - it would cut in and out some. I called comcast and they sent a guy out here that put in a booster and it fixed the problem. Also went from 175kB to 400kB for free :)

Most of the time cable companies are going to be VERY reluctant to install an amp, a friend of mine said that that option was more of a last ditch choice.

If you also have more splitters up the line, this could cause even more issues (I had 3 splitters at one point, it worked for years but recently I lost all signal to the modem, replaced all splitters with a single 3 way split (cable modem on strongest split) and signal strength doubled.
