Cable management question

Alright folks, I'm going to order my final mod supplies in order to get everything ready before the end of the month when I leave for college. I'm not quite sure what I'd like to do with my cables just yet. These are the two products that I'm considering. What are some of the benefits of each, and which would be more manageable?

Also, how much of each diameter would I need? I know that the main power connector would need a 1/2" width, and the rest would probably only need 1/4" or 3/8" at most.

loom is cheap and fast, and ugly. sleeving is sleeker and sexier.

with sleeving, you have to remove the power connectors for the heatshrink tubing to fit. for the 20pin atx connector, you have to fudge around it as you cant really remove the connector unless you have a really expensive tool. the 4 pin molex is easier to remove, but you should use a pin extractor to help you.

svc has better prices on the sleeving and the heatshrink tubing. radioshack carries the pin extractors. http://www.svc.com/sleeving.html svc also carries a pin extractor. radioshack has one for less $$$, and make sure you dont get the dsub pin extractor at radioshack. however, svc doesnt carry split loom.

1/4" for the 4pin molex
3/4" for the power supply.

Hmm...all of these sales over at SVC. It's almost like they're closing up shop soon and selling off their stock. Oh well, it's only $10 down the drain if it doesn't work out. I'm getting thumbscrews and a fan filter as well.
 
I used 3/8" tubing for the rest of the wiring, and 1/2" heat shrink all around. It looks pretty slick and was fairly easy to do. I also used a small screw driver to just bend the molex pins in so they slip out, then bend them back out once they were ready to be reattached.

remember, it's easiest to make a diagram of how the wires are attached to the molex connectors before you remove the wires, and taping the leads so that the metal clips aren't in a bunch, but instead a line, makes it easiest to push the sleeving over it.

They always have stuff on sale, and no they are not closing down 😀
Removing the 20pin ATX cable is doable but takes time, use a very fine needle like tool if you can and before you start taking the pins out mark the layout of the coloured wires !

I have a basic guide for sleeving in my sig, check it out if it helps you at all.
 
With all the cables involved coming out of the power supply, what does one do with the unused cables? I just zip-tied mine together & stuck it out of the way in the empty 5 1/4 bays. It isn't pretty, but it isn't blocking the airflow either. Have any of y'all opened up the power supply & disconnected the wires that weren't needed, or is that possible?
I'm trying to tidy mine up some for the day I break down & buy me a window panel for my case & a light for inside. Can't afford an upgrade, so I might as well pretty it up some...hehehe.
