Cable Line filters?

Hey all, Does anyone know if there is a special filter/device between the outside line and my cable modem? I want to split the cable inside the wall and use it for Tv as well. Is this recommended? or should I run a seperate wire from the splitter outside?

Thanks for the help.

a separate cable is better, but not necessary.

Do a speedtest now and then split the cable inside and run a speed test. If the loss isn't significant, I would just leave it there rather than run another cable.

Actually, I installed cable internet (from Cox) before getting their TV service. They split the one and only cable at my house using a 5-900MHz splitter when I ordered their TV service and I haven't noticed any speed degradation.

I was told make sure you get high quality splitters. Goto an Audio\Visual store and see what they recommened, but I wouldn't spend alot of money for just a splitter.

thanks guys for the help, I noticed outside the cable company has a 1ghz splitter installed. I'll look around for a good quality splitter.
