Cable length for P180

Was thinking about getting in on that http://www.svc.com/clearance.html clearance and am thinking about a disk drive cable, a couple of sata cables and a few ide cables for optical drives and a hard drive. How long do you guys think they should be? 18''?
Also is getting multiple colors (green + blue) a good idea? does it look good or is it too much?

Finally, what do those dragon fan grills do? Don't they impede the airflow?

You don't even see the cables so you could probably get any colors you want.

Just be careful and you won't need fan grills.

24" should be enough.
