i'm on at 650am ... not a peak time for cable internet users in my area...

i dont know much about networking... is there some kind of "port forwarding" or something I should be doing to get closer to the advertised speed?

im getting 770kiloBITS

So im downloading at less than 90kiloBYTES/sec

i'll do the speed test w/o router...

try connecting directly to the cable modem instead of through the router and see if your connection is better.. if it is not then you just have slow speed or a bad cable modem.

There are settings within windows that can affect your internet speeds.

When I first subscribed to cable internet I was only getting 75kbps download speed instead of 3Mbps.

Go to http://www.dslreports.com/

There are a lot of test there you can do to help diagnose the problem.
I occassionally link from there to a nearby speakeasy server for a speed test.

There is also a program called "Cablenut". (Google it) It has generic windows settings that make it really easy to get your sys in order. (if that is the problem)

but from a router with default settings he should be getting a lot more then he is getting.. you might squeeze a little bit more but not like 5Mbs more
