i live in northern california and i currenly use comcast cable as my isp. i have a linksys wireless router (BEFW11S4 V2/V3) and i have 2 other computers (one being a laptop) and i notice that i frequently get disconnected from aol instant messenger and world of warcraft. what should i do? is there anything in the router i need to do? to limit speeds or anything? i have all the port forwarding it recommends for the servers for warcraft. please help. thanks

To disable it, just right click on my computer and go to manage. Then go to services and applications, and then Services under that. On the right you will see all the windows services running on your computer. Zero Wireless Configuration should be at the bottom there. Disable it. Zero wireless is the built in windows wireless config, and it only would deal with that particular computer, not the others. If it kills your wireless connection, you can always go turn it back on later.

Oh yeah, on the settings page for zero wireless, just do stop, and then see if you can still get online. If you can then change the Startup Type to Disabled, and that will keep it from coming back up every time the comptuer boots up.

If you're using encryption, then first go to your wireless card's properties and make sure you don't have "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication" checked. It usually isn't, but if it is then it can cause problems.

As for the Zero Config service, in my experience it's easier just to stop it after you boot up and connect to the router. Then it'll stay stopped until you boot up again. It's just one click less than having to enable and then disable it when you want to connect.

If you're connected via wireless you might look to see if you're getting interference from a cordless phone or microwave. both of those items can potentially run on the same band as a 2.4ghz wireless router. I've found updating the firmware on wireless routers also helps in a lot of cases.

hmm thanks. can i get the firmware from the linksys website? the computer im using is connected directly to the router and is not using wireless. it is my 2 other computers that run on the wireless. i just find it odd and annoying how i lag and get disconnected from servers when all my family and friends who play, do not get disconnected. even the ones with the same internet as me
