Cable Ingress = no internet service?

Title pretty much says it all. My computer and cable modem were both working fine. One day Insight was doing a routine neighborhood check and found my line to be introducing interference into the system. They send out a tech, he traces every line in the house and outside and can't find anything causing it. He calls in 2 more techs and they do the same. Finally I think maybe my power outlet strip was about fried or something, so I tell them, try unplugging the computer. Interference went away. These 3 techs were clueless how to fix it and left. Cable company sent 2 more guys a week later and they verified that, yes if you unplug the computer the problem goes away. One of them told me there was such a thing as a band filter to fix it, but they didn't have one and wouldn't order one.

So the long and the short of it is... They sent out 5 techs, I found the problem, they're too cheap to fix it, and they want me to buy a new power supply for my computer before they'll hook my cable modem service back up. I refuse to buy a new power supply because as far as I'm concerned there's nothing wrong with the one I have. What a hassle... Anyone wanna buy a cable modem? Anyone have any similar experiences?

Their network, their rules.
It might not be the PSU but the power strip. Especially if it an el-cheapo Walmart special.

If you can, try isolating the cable modem on a different circuit in the house, and see if that makes a difference. If you run the cable modem and the computer off the same power strip, you can try just removing the modem from the strip and see if that does it.

I do think its pretty weird that a electrical problem is causing so much interference back out to the street for them to kill the service. But thats me. 😀

Yep you're right, it is pretty weird for them to kill the service, but I guess it is their network. I tried with and without the power strip and took the computer/power supply to a different room and different circuit in the house and we tested the cable modem and so forth in other rooms and it still caused the feedback, even with the cable modem disconnected. They picked up the interference just on the wiring. Power strip was a decent one, those $20 surge suppressors. At any rate I'm out of luck until I get a new power supply. I guess I needed a break from the NET for a while anyway.
