Yes, they probably have their cap set slightly above their advertised speed.

are you on Charter? they're currently giving a free trial of 5Mb for 3Mb customers (until Feb '08 i think).

Yes I'm on Charter. Did'nt know about the free trial. Is this for all areas/states? I'll look into this.

I'm not sure if it's only for certain areas or for all. i'm in Alhambra, CA (southern cali) myself. check your bill, it should say something about "5Mb trial [expiration date here]" in one of the line items.

oh, and if it does turn out that you're on the 5Mb line, then the speeds you originally reported in the OP would be relatively slow...might want to look into that ;)

Sometimes their speed cap is a little generous. Lengthy downloads (1MB+) will probably average the speed of the cap, though.
