He first brought the wrong cablecard type, then he came 3 hours later with the replacement (vs. "i'll be right back)...

Tip or no tip?

I didn't know you tipped the cable guy. When they installed my internet, I just offered drinks. I hope I wasn't supposed to give them money :^/

I only tip if they do something outside the scope of a normal installation.

Basement installations?

He earned it. Those rock walls are 3 feet thick.

So I guess my "tip" would be not to call and complain. I was most annoyed when I called his cell phone back to ask when he'd be here, saying "it's been three hours.." and he got belligerent, saying that he knew what time it was and didn't need me to tell him..

Well, if he can get it through 3 feet of stone and not hit your moat or damage any of the shackles on your basement wall, he deserves something special. We're just talking about the tip, though. Right?

You kind of went on the offensive with your call. I probably would have responded irritably also. He's trying to get his workload cleared, and customers calling him, and telling him the time doesn't help.

WTF?

You pay for the installation service and you are given a time. three hours is not "be right back" If I had called and he gave me crap about my call, I would have told him not to bother coming back and then placed a call to his corporate office.

People need to stop being doormats.

Installers and dispatchers are from different planets.. The reality is that some customers take longer to setup. Having a set timeframe for install is unrealistic.
