Question Cable for HDMI laptop output to USB-C monitor input?

I have an elderly laptop with HDMI output and have been given an HP E14 G4 Portable Monitor that only has USB-C connector for driving the display. I tried a Comsol USB-C to HDMI monitor cable, but it appears to be uni-directional only - it will drive an HDMI display from the USB-C video port on another laptop, but it doesn't work the other way for HDMI output from the older laptop to USB-C input on the monitor. In my searching I haven't found a cable that says it is for HDMI output to USB-C input. Is there such a thing?
