Hey there folks,

So I've got to rig up some kind of network as it turns out. Here is the situation, my family has a cable connection, but the only one really using it's benefits is yours truly, and I have my own computer (aside from my sister dling mp3's on occasion) so basically my machine is the only one I really need to retain my current speeds on. The other ocmputer in the house, as I said is only used for occasion mp3 dl's and general surfing etc. It would be quite a project to wire up a standard cable router because of problems concerning where to run the wires. I was thinking wireless, but is it true that you lose major bandwidth no matter what going wireless?

Would it work somehow that my machine is actually wired into the modem, but the second computer be on a wireless connection?

Also, can anyone recommend a solid router?

You probably would want to get a wireless router and a wireless client for your sister's machine. Then just plug your machine into the router and the other will use wireless. Bandwidth reduction would be when both of you are downloading but not just by adding wireless.

You should be happy with Netgear, Linksys, SMC. Orinoco makes the best clients. I believe SMC and Dlink have their + models for 22mbps. Figure out what you want to spend and then choose according to the best deal. It is worth it to choose a router than has removable antennas in case you need higher gain antennas to enhance signal to your wireless computer.
