Cable/DSL Router Problems

Hi there,
I've been setting up a small network of 5 computers to all shar the same internet connection. I'm using an 8 port LinkSys Cable/DSL Router. 4 of the computers have no problems whatsoever of leasing a private IP addres from the router. However, the 5th computer has trouble leasing one. I have tried using different network cables, I connected the cable modem directly to the 5th computer and it worked fine. Everytime the 5th computer boots up it jsut assigns itself the Private IP of 169.254.xxx.xxx. Auto-IP is enabled and the router supports DHCP. None of the other computers have any problem at all in leasing an IP address. Even if the 5th computer is the only one connected to the router it still does not lease an IP address.
Now, the odd thing is that once we were able to lease an IP address for a SHORt period of time but the internet connection was EXTREMELY slow. Also, sometimes when the 5th computer says it has not leased an IP address and I check the DHCP Client table on the router it says that it has the 5th computer but it has assigned it a high numbered private IP (192.168.1.120) where all the other are low 100's (100,101,102,104).
I am wondering if it is the NIC but it seems odd that the current NIC works find when connected directly to the Cable modem. Could it possible be a Window's software issue? Perhaps some file corruption occurred that affects the ability for networking?

All help is greatly appreciated - thanks.
