Hey folks. I have Comcast cable internet and recently I've been having some problems. I can connect, and have a good fast connection, but it will only last for 30 - 120 minutes at a time. I will lose the connection (can't browse, IM, MP game - anything), but my modem lights are all perfectly normal like I'm connected. I have solid Power, Receive, Send, Online, and blinking Activity LEDs. This is a Motorola SB4100 modem. For troubleshooting I've tried the following:
1. Completely removed my router from the equation, hooking directly to my computer.
2. Switched between my onboard LAN and an ethernet card.
3. Tried connecting modem via USB.
4. Had cable guy come out to check my lines.
Nothing worked. No matter how I have it hooked up it does the same exact thing. It's simply a matter of restarting the modem to get my connection back, but all the constant interruptions can really get annoying. All the troubleshooting has led me to believe that the problem is my modem. Is there anyway I can find out for sure, or get updated drivers/firmware for my modem? I've searched but haven't found anything. I own it, not rent. If you guys do think it's the modem and that I'll need a new one, please suggest a good cable modem to replace it. Thanks.
