i have the fastest cable connection currently offered by comcast at 8mb/sec. normally it is blazing fast and kicks ass like youd expect it to, but all of the sudden earlier today it just slowed way waaay down. im pretty sure it has nothing to do with my computer because i havent installed any new software or hardware or made any system changes.

basically it was working like normal this morning, but then after lunch i came back to my computer and it was slow(takes forever to load even just yahoo.com). it took me 25mins just to register and make this post, if that gives you any idea of how slow the connection is now. i tried ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew, i tried restarting my computer, tried resetting my cable modem, even tried using system restore to bring my computer back to a few days ago. no dice.

im pretty sure it has to be a problem with comcast, but i called tech support and they did not show any known service problems in my area. also, the techie was NOT helpful at all, she just suggested deleting my cookies and temp internet files and then restarting my computer.

any thoughts about what could have happened? thanks for any help.

btw, if it matters, im running winxp home, using the black motorola modem model SB5101, and connecting it directly to my pc with an ethernet cable(no router or switch).

Try another computer on the modem and if that doesn't make a difference, its something with comcast, maybe a bad modem too.

i just tried my laptop and it seems like the connection was even weaker on it. it would just pop up the little msg saying "would you like to work offline or try to connect," so i couldnt even get online at all, even though the little icon in the taskbar showed an active internet connection.

the modem is only 2 weeks old, can it really just crap out for no apparent reason like that?

power off the modem and laptop...hook directyl to laptop..

power on modem then laptop
run bandwidth test

if still slow, contact comcast

lol @ running bandwidth test. lol, i tried that about 45mins ago but the page just kept loading and loading. i finally got into my email and tried downloading an attached word file...it was going at .6kb/sec.

i guess i will have to try comcast again tomorrow, but their tech support was completely useless today. thanks for any suggestions.

desktop getting slow speeds. im able to post from it, but it is just painfully slow.(takes me back to the old prodigy dialup days)

laptop getting virtually no connection at all(network connections shows a live connection, but neither IE nor firefox will connect to any website).
