Cable connection dropping on me

My cable connection drops completely on me from time to time while on the web, and the only way I can get it back again is to reboot my comp. This is a new development also, when I try to get a server list on gamespy, my connection drops at around the 100th server. When i say drops, I mean completely dead, repair connection under network settings doesn't work, can't open web pages, ICQ, etc. I have to reboot the machine to get it back.

I have a cable connection not connected to a router. I'm using windows xp, have updated both windows and the drivers for the 3com gigabit onboard lan on my p4c800 deluxe, and nothing improved. Tried turning off all virus protection and firewalls, same problem. The only thing I can think of is that I had the Sasser worm recently, but I removed it with no problems.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Are you using any cable splitters? Do you have multiple devices runnning off of the same cable line?

From my experiances some cable modems are very sensitive if they don't get the best signal, they will try to re-establish one. Obviously using cable splitters lowers the line quality.

I have the same problem, same mobo, brand new PC.

I get online for about 5 minutes, lose connection and have to reboot to get it back. Any result on this...?

I'm betting this is your MAC ID: 00-E0-06-09-55-66

Go to the command prompt and type: ipconfig /all to see. Post back with the info, there is an issue with ASUS baords and windows drivers 😉
