Roadrunner price went up so I went shopping around...

RR now makes you pay 44.95
plus 10.94 for basic service you have to get basic service ( in canton, OH )
that $56.00
But EarthLink High Speed Internet is $ 41.95
exclusively for Time Warner?serviceable customers got to love that....
" and you get a free dial up with that sir,,,,,,??? what did you say 20 hours free $1.00 for ever hour up to $21.95 good till the end off the year"

Same speed as RR but cheaper.....
You keep your cable modem from RR so no big mess change over is a restart

EarthLink High Speed Internet :)
This is very hot set up if you have a satellite...

I'm probably going to do this since RR and cable rates went up. Time Warner needs to keep those prices reasonable and the service better. I've called on more than one occasion and ended up solving my own problem when they couldn't figure it out.

yes, because RBOCs are evil....

also, the FCC recently reclassified Cable companies as information services... which mean they WILL NOT be regulated strictly AND they dont have to open their lines to open access...

now the RBOCs want the same classification... and then the're be real trouble

damn I wondered why my bill sky-rocketed to $60 all of a sudden. Can they just change the price without making you sign something??

I have RR and do not have ANY cable tv service...only DirectTV. I'm paying the $45/month including the equipment rental and nothing else. I was told they used to require basic service but dropped the requirement over 6 months ago.

Has anyone made the change from RR to Earthlink? Was there any speed changes? How does this effect your Time Warner TV service/cost?

Same here but i have had Dish Network since 1995. I didnt need any basic cable to sign on with them since i was a cable subscriber for over 15 years. My rates HAVE NOT gone up other then the standard $44.95. I live in Orange County, CA

Does earthlink (Cable or DSL) give you a free modem? Or discount your bill if you already own a modem?

Read the link. Regular monthly service $49.95, now just $41.95. You save $3 per month, but for how long?

Yeah, I read that too. So much for competition lowering prices.

Both RR and Earthlink High speed prohibit the connection of user-owned cable modems to their lines. You are required to lease equipment from them. Both RR and Earthlink use Toshiba cable modems exclusively. It used to be common knowledge that you could simply buy a Toshiba cable modem and connect it to RR without paying a monthly fee since RR did not do any sort of equipment authentication. However, in the past year RR has started implementing security procedures that records the MAC address of your cable modem each time a request is made for a IP address from their DHCP servers or each time an external DHCP request is monitored through their routers.

In the past, TW also provided basic cable TV free with their RR service, but have since stopped offering this service free to RR only subscribers now that they have the ability to block alll cable TV service at the CO to non-subscribers which was previously impossible to do. In the past, blocking cable service for RR only subscribers required a field service call and the installation of a bypass filter at the installation site. These were not cost effective so TW basically did not install them and RR only subscribers could get free cable TV.

RR has dial-up? I'm in Houston and their web site says they are "considering" offering it. I called up my RR office and they said they don't offer it. Is this area specific?

Anybody have experience switching from RR cable to Earthlink? I'm paying $49.95 now and $41.95 would definately be less painfull.

Very odd. I use RR service through COX Cable and I own the Motorola cable modem I use with the service, so I only pay $30 a month for the RR service. (Granted, it would be $40/month if I didn't have cable tv through COX). But thankfully they have a guarantee of no price increase in 2002.

Also, on Cox's site they have a list of modems that can be used with the RR service:

Best Data CMX110
Ericsson HM200C
Motorola SB3100
Motorola SB4100
RCA DCM235
Scientific Atlanta
Webstar DPX-110
Terayon EMC210
Toshiba PCX1100
Toshiba PCX1100U
Toshiba PCX2000

So there are options - I guess it just depends on what Cable service you are using the RR service through.
