Everyone remember this article that was posted a month or so ago? Cable packages not required 1992 Cable Act

Well, I'm currently fighting with my cable company as they say the law doesn't exist and only sell premium channels in packages. The CSR I talked to, all but called me a liar and I said I would bring the law in to they can see it in black white.

But I'm having a hard time finding the exact clause they mention in the article as most website are just talking about the clause and not actually printing it.

Anyone know where I can find it? Again, I've check google and I'm getting so much other crap not related it's amazing!

THanks,

hmmm... I just checked Cox cables rate's page and they have a heading titled, "Premium Services a la Carte".

Is it just me or does it seem weird for congress to decide how a cable company can sell its product? Shouldn't it be the responsiblity of the customers to persuade the cable company to offer a service?

A product is worth as much as a some one is willing to pay for it.

In most areas cable companies are monopolies. As such they require regulation.

In my area I have to use the only cable company available or depend on broadcast TV, which I could easily live with, but not my family.

Try googling for:

Cable Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act of 1992

instead. Tons more hits...

Well, that was dissapointing. I spoke with the regional manager and she says "Ohhh, that is taken out of context! There is only so much bandwidth through a cable line, we can't just let people pick and choose what premium channels they want!" Then I said "Ohhh, ok.... then how is a cable package different?" Then she said "Hmmm, well it is... I can speak with my supervisor and get him to tell you same thing!"

I said "Ohhhhhh kay, could you please get him?" Turns out he wasn't in and I said I'd come in on Monday.

They are so damned crooked! Part of bill also says they can't restrict pay per view events to a certain cable package, which my cable company does.

So if I don't get some truth on Monday, I'm going to the FCC and all my local news outlets and let them about a "breaking story with our area's biggest cable provider breaking the law and stealing their customers money!"
