hey,all..i need help regarding the pc cabinet fan of my system..its weird or knowingly hp have forget to put a cabinet fan into it.so i want to add a cabinet fan into it so i have buy a 120mm fan but the fan size is much larger then the cabinet holes there,,my system is COMPAQ CQ 3120IX ..can any one of u those u have a compaq pc can help me better. 80 or 92 mm size!!

I can't tell from the pic what size fan will fit in that chassis. Measure the diagonal distance between mounting holes. That will tell you the size of the fan you can mount in it.

This is your motherboard:

Unless I'm missing it, I see only one fan connector on the motherboard, in the upper right, between the FAM slots and the CPU. If there's no other fan connector, you'll want a fan with a standard 4 pin Molex power connector, or you'll need an adapter between that and the power connector on the fan.

yup !! but i cant able to measure no idea what to do and how to do..earlier i have buy a 120mm fan cooler master but the fan size is much bigger then the holes given in the pc. but what i am thinking that i will not connect it to mobo but will directly connect it to psu.. what i am thinking 80 or 92 will work on it !!

You can use a ruler to measure the diagonal distance between mounting holes on the computer chassis. You will find this measurement in every manufacturer's specifications for their products. It is called "mounting centers."

From your post, I'm not sure if you already bought a 120 mm fan, but if that won't fit in your chassis, you will have to buy a fan that will fit and has the required mounting centers.

And yes, you can connect the fan directly to the PSU. If the fan comes with a connector other than the standard 4 pin Molex connector, you will need an adapter to connect it to the PSU, or you will have to cut off the connector that comes with the fan and attach the one you need.
