how much in taxes are supposed to be taken out of each paycheck?

i claim single and no dependents.

i just got my check today and it's 82 dollars less than usual. my social security tax was doubled, as was medicare and CA disability. did something happen?!?!

If your SS and Medicare were doubled they must have made a mistake. Let them know. Take in an old stub to show them what it's supposed to be.

its so freaking trippy - everyone in the office had this happen to them, AND guess what, the guy who does our payroll isn't here. ERGH..

Fica is 6.2% of gross (before 401k deduction)
med care is 1.45 % ( ditto above)
sit, fit is per income table. It should be less than last year for similar pay assuming same exemptions
sdi. is I gotta look I'll edit.. .9%

go to irs.gov and look at sch e for the tax table for your situation. The system should be within pennies of this amount.
same for cal. cept go to their site.. (duh 🙂)
