On the November ballot and overwhelmingly YES. Damn, that'll what, double the cost almost?
Not that I like taxes, but as a physician I cant say Im against it. Most people you meet in the county health system are overweight smokers, maybe this will help people smoke less and have less problems.

EDIT: crap, I thought I was in P&N

its already established smoking is bad
taxes are already exorbitant on cigarettes

I smoke, but I really really want to quit. Smokin's bad folks. I sorta wish they'd do something like that around here.

So when people start smoking less (or getting them from out of state) what do you think they will raise the taxes on? Alcohol? Soda? Sales tax? Property tax? You get the picture.

When taxes are raised on an item, it will move on to another item when the pool starts to dry up. Hell, look at California's gas prices.

I wonder how long it will take until increasing taxation of tobacco causes a black market to develop. It would be interesting from a policy point of view.

Are they purposely forcing people to look to other means of smoking something? If I pay that much I want a free toy at the bottom of my cigarette pack. like a free transfer tattoo or something.

Mail-order/out-of-state purchasing. It's that simple.

When it happened in NY, they obtained records from companies that shipped cigs to NYS. They then went back and charge all the people taxes they should've paid.

Funny how NYS will go after smokers for not paying use tax, but they leave so many other groups alone.

heh i wonder what they will go after when smokeing is finally killed off? you damn well they will. the amount they get off from the taxes are insane. my bet will be alchohol or fatty foods. tax one item into the ground then start all over again.

but hey keep taxing tabaco and leave my property taxes low!

Nobody profits more off of smoking than the states.

A lot of states accept lawsuit money against the tabacco companies and then did not spend the money on what it was ear marked for.

Just a way to steal from people under the law.

What's your point? Overweight people have a higher metabolism anyway.
