I've made an appointment to take the test this coming Thursday and am wondering if the sample tests shown here http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/interactive/tdrive/exam.htm are representative of the test I will actually be taking.

I haven't had to take a written test since 1993 so I am a little apprehensive. If I have to memorize the whole Driver's Manual I'm in big doo doo.

If you have the time, take a look at the tests and let me know.

Thanks.

lol no dont worry about having to memorize the whole manual. while there are SOME technical questions, most of it is just common sence if i remember it right but i havent taken it since i was like 15 and that was 5 years ago but my chick took it like a couple months ago. its just mostly common sence. just read it at least once a day and you should be fine. and remember, we drive on the RIGHT side

I took the exam in March, trying to get my original CA driver's license (first one was from out-of-state).

As I remember, the questions were about laws and road signs. As in the link you provided, the test will be multiple choice.

I'm assuming you will get a Class C license, so if you do well on those, I don't think you will have much trouble with the exam. Oh, if you're taking the exam for the first time like I did, you will have 36 questions. If you are just renewing your CA driver's license, you will be required to answer 18 questions.

I looked in the DMV Drivers Handbook (PDF file), and I would say the DMV would like for everyone to know the information from page 12 (Laws/Rules of the Road) to page 74 (Health and Safety). So, if you review this material, you should be fine.

Thanks but do the sample questions look like what you took?

I took a look at a few of the tests, and yes, they do look like the questions that I had. The questions are not really tricky, but the DMV does want everyone to know what the laws and rules are when they actually start driving.

So if you can review especially the sections I mentioned and do the sample tests on the DMV website or from the back of the handbook, I think you should do well.

Honestly, if you read the questions carefully there's no way you will miss any of them. They've got a few ones that are worded tricky so you just have to pay attention and read them a couple times.
