C7 put on indefinite hold

Fail! 🙁

Hopefully the merger/buyout of Chrysler goes through, and the re-alignment of domestic production leads to newfound profitability.

The C6 is a damn fine piece of machinery though, and with the Viper almost certainly toast, there's not much to challenge it's supremacy at the price points.

If Nissan doesn't handle their issues with LC and so on, the GT-R is looking pretty weak compared to the Z06. The Z06 you can beat on day in and day out, and besides eating some clutches, you'll probably still see it running fine at 100k of hard miles. The GT-R? Doesn't seem like it to me.

It's smart business. Why spend money on replacing a very modern competitive vehicle? Update it as you go but spend your money on complete redesigns of outdated vehicles, especially because those outdated vehicles are the bread and butter of your business.

I agree, I actually think they release 'new' Corvettes too often (gens), the current one I really like and don't see a need for the C7

The Corvette is GM's halo vehicle and has been for decades. Letting it rot on the vine is a terrible idea. The C5 Vette ran for 8 model years and the C6 is on it's 4th year. How modern and competitive do you think it'll be in 2012? 2014?

Having a relatively low volume halo car be leading edge while letting the high volume sedans and family vehicles fall behind is no way to run a business. The C6 is a great car, even to people that don't like GM. If they put that design effort into some of their other cars they would be significantly more competitive. As much as I like the corvette its not worth risking the company's health just so that it can be incrementally better.

To put this in perspective, C4 ran from '83 (as an '84 model, there is only one surviving '83 IIRC) to '96. C5 was '97 to '04. C6 from '05 to '12-'14 wouldn't be all that unusual. Incremental improvements should hold it steady.

The C7 info i saw was just a target, they were going to scale back to a 5.4L motor and keep the power/weight the same. I think the target date was 2010-2012, but the current C6 will still definitely be a class leader for a few more years.

Yeah I really think so as well. Look at how far they took the C4. It went from a pretty weak beginning, to some pretty spectacular highs (ZR1, '96 GS, etc).

They should be the ZR-1 suspension and tires over to the Z06 and make it a bit less of a death machine.

That an improve the interior, that will hold them off for a few more years.
