Based on the information in the article, the key performance updates are much better cooling for the FI engine. This wouldn't affect 0-60 or 1/4mi times a whole lot but likely could make a significant difference on the track. Heat soak is a pretty common thing for SC/T engines so this might provide pretty nice real-world performance improvements.

Shouldn't people have to attain a special kind of driver's license for power ratings as high as this?

The Z06 is already on the ragged edge (and for many unlucky folks, over it) of the capability of the OEM cooling solution for track work. I'm talking about actual coolant and oil temps and not charge air temps. It handles charge air temps reasonably well. Dumping the waste heat to make 100 more HP in to the OEM air and oil cooling though is not going to be a pretty sight for anyone who tracks their car.

Callaway usually does a pretty good job, but this car would only be a good street or drag car. They haven't touched the primary engine cooling at all.

A CA legal bump, with warranty. Or... Replacing the 1.7l blower with a 2.3, providing a much larger air pump to use to build more power than was possible before. Imagine LMR or Vengeance Racing getting hold of a Callaway and going full Stage 4 on it.

Edit: Although, if you were considering doing all that, you'd probably get the new Procharger kit anyway.

These cars aren't difficult to drive. I've had two 400 hp+ and two 600 hp+ factory cars manufactured in the last 5 years. All were very easy to manage cars that are no more difficult to drive than any other car. You don't really need to learn anything to drive one. You do need to not be stupid while driving, but I don't think licensing would do anything at all to address stupid.

I haven't had any problem yet with mine, but I have had so much going on that it hasn't been to the track since April I think it was, so I don't really have any good data since it was cool the last day I was out.

Agreed. In addition, these cars have a lot more tire than the Hellcats from Chrysler.
