C7, C8, Nighthawk R7000, or...

Hi guys. I'm currently interested in getting a new router. My current router is the Belkin n750 from a few years back, not the new version.

The Nighthawk R7000 looks cool but it's a bit pricey. The USB 3.0 port would be great for hooking up a hard drive for streaming and it offers FTP. But I do have a 4TB Seagate Central and most of my streaming would be through that. I'm currently going through my collection of NFL broadcasts and TV recordings, making MKVs of them, putting them on the Seagate, and streaming my collection through the Xbox One Media Player which plays MKVs. I really like the Seagate vs the old way I used to stream through my Belkin. I've had no buffering at all since I started using the NAS. When I connect two USB hard drives to the Belkin, only one would show up or I would have other problems.

Anyway, I thought about getting the Archer C7 since it's only $86, but it's not DLNA certified (does this matter?), the USB ports are only 2.0, and it doesn't have beamforming. I read the requirements for beamforming and I have no way to make use of it anyway. I only have a laptop that's a few years old, an Xbox One, 360, Wii U, plus I stream heavily with the Seagate NAS. But the C7 allows you to have your own FTP server, and that's what I'm interested in so others can see/download my files. The remote sharing feature of the Seagate NAS is super slow and useless. A friend tried to download a file and it was going at less than dial up speed.

My other choice would be the Archer C8 AC1750, but I'm not sure I like the design. At $115-$125 it's a possibility... it has USB 3.0, FTP, beamforming. I guess I'd get the Nighthawk R7000 if it wasn't $150-$199.

Any suggestions?

FTP server is going to be needed only for things direct connected to the router for storage. It can't provide access to what is on the NAS. DLNA is needed on the router only if you are streaming from router connected storage to a DLNA player. I personally do iTunes or SMB streaming, so I can't care one fig about DLNA (personally).

I have the C8, it is pretty nice. I can't say it is necessarily worth the price premium. The storage is only a bit faster, despite the USB3 port. The little I have compared directly to a C7, the 2.4GHz seems to work a bit better at range but the 5GHz on the C7 seems slightly better at range, but the speeds on wireless are roughly comparable without any big differences. I like the web admin interface on the C8 a LOT more.
