I have heard the the C3D can unlock and oc very well but i also here that the 6800gs is a very bad ass card and can perform almost better than the x800 but you cant unlock it. i am stuck in a pickle here i want a decent card i have already purchased a C3D x800GTO but i am thinking about returning possibly!! ahh im so confused!

^ he's wrong. check out anands own benches. the unlocked/overclocked wins half the time, and the 6800gs wins the other half. gto wins half life. 6800gs wins doom 3, quake 4, bf2. i'm getting the 6800gs eventually...

Link to benches showing I'm wrong? Benches with some AF too, since Anand seems to skimp out on the benches lately...

Why dont you look at these benches http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/digest3d/index0510.html, compare a 6800Ultra (OC'd GS) to a x850xt pe (unlocked + OC'd gto) and then tell me who's wrong. Oh, and the gto costs less too

One question to ask, do you want shader model 3 or not?

If not, I think the x800 will save you some cash and perform about the same. Personally though, I'd go for the 6800gs.

Um...does Anandtech have benches of an unlocked and overclocked GTO? I thought they only benched the normal GTO.

Just look at the X850XTPE benches.

As for the original question:

I would get the X800GTO over the 6800GS at this point. Especially if you're gonna upgrade in the spring anyway.

anand benched the 6800gs vs the x850xt (which is what a gto will overclock to). at this point, both cards will play half life at highest possible settings except lost coast. if ALL you play is half life, then go with the gto.

and munky, that was a terrible link. 6800gs beat an x850xtpe in half life, and the x850xtpe beat the 6800gs in doom...the other cards are a little off too.

LOL, where are you looking? I dont see a 6800gs beating a x850 anywhere.
